Problem
CMMC became increasingly prominent in customer conversations, but the team lacked the background knowledge to show up prepared to advise. CMMC is a complex federal requirement with shifting timelines, technical language, and high stakes for defense suppliers, and there was no quick, clear way for advisors to learn what it is, what it requires, and how to guide clients through it. As a result, clients risked going unsupported and opportunities were missed.
Solution
Partnered with our CTO and security expert to ensure technical accuracy, and collaborated with our VP of Sales and sellers experienced in CMMC to reflect real client conversations. Designed and developed a self-paced, interactive guide that breaks CMMC into six short chapters, pairing plain-language content with interactive exercises, knowledge checks, and a branching client scenario where advisors practice the conversation.
My Process
I partnered with our CTO and security expert to define accurate, current content, then worked with our VP of Sales and sellers familiar with CMMC to understand how the topic comes up with clients. Their input shaped a six-chapter structure, the branching client scenario, and the knowledge checks. I built the guide as a responsive web experience aligned to CXponent’s brand, refined it with stakeholder feedback, and administered it through our LMS.
Content Outline

Working with our CTO, security expert, VP of Sales, and CMMC-experienced sellers, I created a detailed content outline covering what CMMC is, the three levels, why compliance matters, and how advisors can recognize and respond to client needs. The outline mapped each chapter’s key concepts, interactive elements, knowledge checks, and the branching client scenario. I shared it with key stakeholders for review, which confirmed technical accuracy and kept the content focused on what advisors actually need in client
Development in Claude
Once the outline was approved, I used Claude to bring the guide to life as a responsive, interactive web experience. I directed the build, from the chapter structure and interactions to plain-language titles and CXponent brand alignment, and refined it through several rounds of review to simplify language and improve the learning flow. The finished guide was administered through our LMS so the team could complete it and track their progress.

Results & Takeaways
-
AI-Assisted Development: Using Claude to build the guide showed how AI can speed up development while keeping instructional design decisions, accuracy, and brand standards in human hands.
-
Making Complex Topics Clear: Translating a technical federal requirement into plain language and practical scenarios strengthened my ability to simplify complex content without losing accuracy.
-
Impact on Client Readiness: The guide gave the team a shared foundation in CMMC, preparing them to show up to client conversations ready to advise.
